Death at a Funeral
So today I noticed that Holly wood has now hit an all time low. So back in 2007 I saw the movie Death at a Funeral, its Directed by Frank Oz (yes Yoda or Fozzie Bear).
Death at a Funeral (2007) – A dignified send-off for a loved one erupts into uproarious chaos when romance, jealousy, in-laws, hallucinogens, dark secrets, life-long yearnings and a spot of bold blackmail all collide grave-side in the irreverent British comedy DEATH AT A FUNERAL. Directed by Frank Oz (“Bowfinger,” “In & Out”) and featuring a cast made up of the cream of Britain’s crop, the film mischievously explores what happens on the day when a typically divided family is finally forced to come to terms with each other’s – bad behavior, outrageous faults, skeletons in the closet and all.
Now that you have read the synopsis, I may continue. So today I was watching some trailers on Apple’s site, and after watching a few trailers I came across one called Death at a Funeral. I said to myself ‘Apple is really getting lazy if they still have a trailer up for a movie that came out three years ago’, and as I looked at the tiny poster however something seemed off. So I clicked on the poster, loaded the trailer, and sat back and was confounded.
Death at a Funeral (2010) – Death at a Funeral is a hilarious day in the life of an American family come together to put a beloved husband and father to rest. As mourners gather at the family home, shocking revelations, festering resentments, ugly threats, blackmail and a misdirected corpse unleash lethal and riotous mayhem.
After I watched the trailer, I realized that the 2007 film was a British comedy and the upcoming film is an American redo. But that didn’t confound me too much, they do this all the time, a British film redone by the Yanks. What really disturbed me is that they kept all the same jokes, plot points and moments in the movie, but changed the family from Caucasian to African American. But I must say this again even that did confounded me too much, what really confounded me was that in all of Great Britain and all of the United States there is apparently only one Dwarf actor. Yes, I didn’t say midget, because he is in fact a Dwarf and his name is Peter Dinklage. He plays the same exact roll in the American film as he played in the British one. Was there really no other dwarf to play the role on either side of the Atlantic?
All that aside it raised a really interesting question in my head. How many actors have played a role in a foreign film and then played the same role in the American remake (or visa versa)?
