V – Series Premiere
Tuesday November 3rd 2009: So tonight on ABC, the new remake of the 80′s miniseries V aired. I personally have never seen the 80′s version, but I hear great things about it. I had some initial fears though.
1. That this remake would fall into the place where bad remakes go, CANCELLATION!
2. With so many Sci-Fi shows out there, that V would be too similar to the others and just be another hyped up show.
So with those fears aside, lets go through what I was excited about.
1. Another Sci-Fi show on prime time network television. Being a big Sci-Fi fan, I am always happy when another one makes it to the surface.
2. Familiar faces from some of my favorite Sci-Fi shows. Firstly, Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) from Lost. Inara (Morena Baccarin) and Wash (Alan Tudyk) from the short lived but brilliant series Firefly. It always makes me happy to see actors who have spent time working in the Sci-Fi genre carry over to others Sci-Fi shows.
3. That it would make viewers think and bring them out of the reality T.V. funk. I am a big believer in the Sci-Fi genre being one that makes the human mind think and dream.
So I sat down and decided to watch the new version not quiet knowing what to expect. The show started out good. I am glad that they didn’t decide to drag out the set up and leave the Visitors arrival till the end of the pilot, instead they threw you right in and introduced the V right off the bat in the first five minutes. The ships looked awesome, but a little bit to much reminiscent of the ships in Independence day. The leader of the V, Anna (Morena Baccarin) was a great casting choice, what better way to introduce your alien species to humanity then through a gorgeous woman. The story kept my attention, and didn’t bore me even though at times I found my self predicting what would happen next. I really hope that they throw some new ideas into the show and blow my mind with unique plots and story development. Overall I thought the show was good, and I hope that they make it into something awesome.
Upsetness!
